Winter FishingThere is no hibernating on Big Winnie, and thanks to the lake's strong ice fishing, the winter season is as lively as the summer months.
At Nodak Lodge, we make it easy to enjoy the camaraderie and craft of ice fishing with LP-heated ice houses, as well as live bait, tackle and a professional fish cleaning service. After a successful day on the lake, you can warm up in the lodge and get advice on spots for tomorrow before you fry today’s catch for supper. While ice fishing may be the sport of the season, it isn't the only fun thing to do on Big Winnie and the surrounding woods in the winter: Both the lake and Chippewa National Forest offer prime snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing and tubing for the kids and kids at heart. The northwoods in winter is a ready playground. |

Winter we have bait available for purchase in the lodge, as well as fish cleaning which all takes place in the lodge basement. If you'd like to clean your own fish, there is a fish cleaning shack available to cabin and fish house rental customers. We ask that you do not clean any fish in the cabins.
If you are bringing your fish in for us to clean for you, please have your fish in the lodge basement before 7pm each day.

Winter ice fish houses are supplied with chairs, every morning we drill the holes and turn heat on for our guests. We plow ice roads and supply guests with a map to navigate to the fish houses. For drive ins with wheel houses - dependent on ice conditions we have spots plowed for you to park, check our current info to see if our access is open or closed to drive ins. We do not have sleeper fish houses. When there is not enough ice to drive trucks, we will drive you with a heated side by side from the resort to the fish house and bring you back in at dark if you do not have a ATV or side by side to bring.
